Remember to Call Your Shot
Our 8-ball division is ‘call shot’ which means the ball & pocket must be identified before each shot. Communication is the best way to prevent disputes, and the key to good sportsmanship. Below is a quick review of ‘call shot’ game rules.
As the Shooter:
- Identify the ball & pocket before each shot
- It is not necessary to call obvious shots
- The ball & pocket must be called for any bank, kick, combination or carom shot — regardless of how obvious the shot may appear
- If you fail to call the shot for a bank, kick, combination or carom — your inning ends and your opponent begins their turn where the cue ball lies
- It is not necessary to state ‘bank’, ‘kick’, ‘combination’ or ‘carom’ — just identify the ball & pocket
- It is not necessary to state which ball will be struck first
- If the 8-ball is pocketed on a bank, kick, combination or carom and you fail to call the pocket — you lose the game
As the Opponent:
- If you are unsure what shot the player is attempting, it is your responsibility to ask before the player is down on the shot
- If you fail to ask, the shot will be considered obvious (unless it is a bank, kick, combination, or carom)
